Two more children die in Irving drownings
IRVING — Police in Irving say two more siblings have died in connection to the tragic drowning that took place at a pool at an Irving apartment complex.
August Smith, 10, was pronounced dead after she was pulled from the pool on the afternoon of June 24. Two other children, 9-year-old Treshawn Smith and 11-year-old Anthony Smith, were also pulled from the pool and placed on life support at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas.
Police say they were told Sunday night that both Anthony and Treshawn passed from their injuries sustained in the drownings.
Irving police announced their deaths in a statement released Monday afternoon. According to the statement, Patricia Allen took her five children — ages 3, 6, 9, 10 and 11 — to the pool late that Wednesday afternoon. Police say Allen and her children didn’t know how to swim, so when the mother noticed her three children underwater in the deep end of the pool, she yelled out for help.
Two more children are dead in a drowning incident at an Irving pool that had already claimed the life of one youngster.
"An apartment maintenance man and others responded to the mother's cry for help and began a rescue effort," said the statement.
While they were able to pull out two of the children, the cloudy water made it hard to see where the third child was located. Responding rescuers spotted the child upon their arrival.
Authorities say their initial findings have led them to believe the deaths were accidental. However, police say the case remains under investigation.
