Woman killed, one injured in school bus accident in Hampton

Authorities have identified the driver who died in a crash involving a school bus and car in Hampton Wednesday afternoon.

Police say 60-year-old Gloria J. Ford died after a Hampton City school bus and Chevrolet Malibu collided at the intersection of Settlers Lndg. and Pembroke Ave. No students were on board the bus at the time of the accident.

Officers found Ford suffering from critical injuries when they arrived on scene. She was later pronounced dead after she was taken to a nearby hospital.

Medics transported the school bus driver to a local hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Preliminary investigations reveal the school bus was traveling northbound on Settler’s Landing Rd. and attempted to make a left turn onto Pembroke Ave. The Chevy Malibu traveled southbound on Queen St. towards Settlers Landing Rd. when both vehicles collided at the intersection.

The intersection of Queen St., Pembroke Ave., and Settlers Lndg. was closed as police investigated the scene.
