Plano man killed in bizarre drunk driving accident

On Saturday at about 6:15 a.m. an off-duty firefighter stopped to assist a subject that was lying in the roadway in the 1600 block of the N.E. Frontage Road of N. Central Expressway. The subject in the roadway was identified as Timothy Strong, 29, of McKinney.

Strong began to fight and struggle with the firefighter, pushed him down and took the firefighter’s personal vehicle, a 2013 black Dodge Challenger.

Strong drove the black Challenger north on the frontage road at a high rate of speed and disregarded the red light at Renner Road.
He collided with a 2009 blue Toyota Corolla that was westbound on Renner Road, proceeding through the intersection.

The driver of the Toyota Corolla was identified as Rishi Bhatia, 68, of Plano. Bhatia suffered massive head and internal injuries and died at the scene of the crash.

Strong suffered a broken scapula and broken ribs and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Evidence from the crash indicated that Strong was intoxicated.

Anticipated charges against Strong are intoxication manslaughter,
robbery and assault of a public servant.

The off-duty firefighter was not injured.

The investigation is on-going.
