Fatal crash on Sprinkle Road
KALAMAZOO COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – Sprinkle Road is back open after a deadly crash had it shut down for a few hours Tuesday.
The sheriff tells us a 51-year-old woman lost control of her car on Sprinkle Road and was T-boned by another car.
Both directions of Sprinkle from East Michigan to East Main were shut down as a result of the crash.
The sheriff tells us the woman slid sideways on the curve in the road and crossed into oncoming traffic. Another car couldn’t avoid hitting her and slammed into the woman’s car, killing her instantly.
The other driver, a 52-year-old from Kalamazoo, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The sheriff says the morning’s snow likely played a role in the crash and he reminds drivers they have to drive for conditions.
“We do have a good number of accidents that we have to go out here and work during the conditions,” said Sheriff Fuller. “When I mention that it’s a speed related accident I am talking about that it’s for the conditions. I want people to remember that the sign alongside the edge of the road is really not the speed limit they are supposed to be going. The conditions dictate your speed limit.”
The sheriff also tells us this stretch of Sprinkle Road has been home to a number of deadly crashes over the years, most of them caused by snow or rain combined with people going too fast.
