2 Dead, 4 Sick in LG Factory Accident
Two people are dead as a result of a nitrogen leak at LG Electronics’ factory near Seoul.
Four others have been sickened, one seriously, The New York Times initially reported.
According to a statement emailed to PCMag, LG Display Co. said the victims–three of whom were subcontractors, three LG employees–were running regular repair and maintenance work.
The nitrogen leak occurred around midday at the P8 factory in Paju, South Korea, which makes LCD screens for large TV sets. Nitrogen is used to wash the display panels during manufacturing, the BBC reported.
“Our thoughts are with the families of the deceased and the injured workers,” the company said in a statement. “LG Display will fully cooperate with the local authorities to conduct a thorough investigation to ensure that such an awful accident is never repeated.”
