18-wheeler driver blocks lane, performs CPR on victim struck by car on I-45

HOUSTON – A man was airlifted to the hospital Thursday after being struck while trying to walk across the North Freeway.

According to Harris County Sheriff’s deputies, a 22-year-old man was attempting to cross I-45 North at Richey Road around 5:45 a.m. when he was struck by a white car.

The driver stopped and waited for emergency crews to arrive.

The pedestrian was taken to Life Flight to Memorial Hermann in critical condition.

An 18-wheeler driver passing by the accident stopped his big rig and blocked the lanes to secure the lane where the victim was laying.

The truck driver then performed CPR until help arrived.
